This gives a consolidated view by the type of agent. For our simple replication setup, not much interesting can be found here. The Snapshot, Log Reader, and Distribution Agents display the same information as was available under the pubs publication. This is a useful section to watch if you have multiple publications being handled since you will see all of them listed. If you highlight the Miscellaneous Agents item, you will see Figure 14-49.
Miscellaneous Agents These agents manage all of the cleanup operations and monitor the health of your replication system. Once a transaction has been commited by all subscribers, it is no longer needed in the distribution database. The Agent history cleanup and distribution cleanup Agents handle this clean up operation. If you have subscriptions that have expired, these are cleaned up by the Expired subscription agent. If there is an error on the subscriber that does not allow a transaction to be commited, the subscription will be reinitialized in order to allow replication to proceed. The final agent plays a very important role in the health of replication. This agent essentially sends a packet periodically to each of the subscribers to ensure they are still active and available to accept transactions. If a subscriber ges offline, this agent will normally be the first to detect it.
