Publishers simply contains a list of the publications that are defined for each server the distribution database is handling. Agents are the workhorses of your replication system. They perform all of the replication actions such as synchronization, applying transactions, and cleaning up. Replication Alerts are set up to notify you when things go wrong. You might notice that I said when and not if. It is almost a guarantee that something will go wrong inside a replicated system at soem point. The Replication Alerts will let you know immediately when this occurs. Selecting each of these items will give you a significant amount of information concerning the operations performed. Highlighting the server name under Publishers will display Figure 14-47. This will display each of the publications that have been defined on a server, the type of publication, and the description.
