With the help of a ton of content from Neil Pike, I used to maintain the SQL Server FAQ on swynk.com.  Since opening up this website, I no longer have access to post to or update that FAQ.  Since this has proven to be an incredibly valuable resource for everyone, I am moving that content out here and will maintain the FAQ from this location going forward.  I'd like to say many thanks to Neil for all of the time and effort he has invested into maintaining the SQL Server FAQ.

Neil's hardware whitepaper

Neil has turned the FAQ into a book which is now available.  To order the FAQ in book form from Amazon: SQL Server: Common Problems, Tested Solutions

A note to those who will bookmark this area.  Please bookmark this main page only as it will remain static.  The remainder of the FAQ may be moved at any time in an effort to maintain a good load time.

All of this data will eventually be condensed and included online as part of either the FAQ or a tutorial. For those who do not want to wait and wish to wade through the data, here are the raw message archives for SQL Server from the last couple of years.   There is one predominant source of the messages, but there are a few other mailing lists mixed in as well.  These are all .pst files that you can link into Outlook that have been zipped.  I will attempt to keep the archives to about 8 - 9 MB when zipped.  Updates will occur as time permits with only the last archive being updated.

6.5 archive 1 13.3MB zipped, 67MB unzipped
6.5 archive 2 7 MB zipped, 34.5MB unzipped
6.5 archive 3 2.6MB zipped, 14MB unzipped updated 1/23/00
7.0 archive 1 7.5MB zipped, 35.6MB unzipped
7.0 archive 2 8MB zipped, 38MB unzipped updated 1/23/00
7.0 archive 3 1MB zipped, 4.6MB unzipped updated 1/23/00
